UK to EU size chart for men and women

UK and EU sizes are the same for men and women, so one chart covers both; the US columns show the matching men’s and women’s sizes (Canadian sizes use the same numbers).

How UK and EU sizes relate

UK sizes step by a barleycorn, a third of an inch (8.47 mm) per full size. EU sizes step by a Paris point, two-thirds of a centimeter (6.67 mm). Because the EU step is smaller, one UK size is about 1.27 EU sizes, so the two scales only line up every few sizes and charts round EU to the nearest half.

Both scales are counted on the length of the last, the form a shoe is built on, and neither splits by gender: an EU 40 or a UK 6.5 is the same length in a men’s or a women’s shoe. Only US sizes have separate men’s and women’s numbers.

Rule of thumb for adults: UK ≈ EU − 33 for EU 35 to 40, and UK ≈ EU − 34 for EU 40 to 45.5. Both land within half a size of this chart; beyond that the gap keeps growing, so use the chart.

How every size system is defined

Width and between sizes

Length is only half of fit. US shoes are often sold in widths marked with letters. A common convention: men’s standard width is D, wide is 2E and extra wide is 4E; women’s standard is B and wide is D. Letters vary by brand, and many brands use words such as narrow, regular and wide instead.

If your measurement falls between two sizes:

Using a brand’s own chart

For a final answer, look up the official size chart on the brand’s own website, for the exact product line if it has one. Compare by foot length in centimeters rather than by size number: find the brand’s row for your measured foot length and read the size from there.

Size numbers don’t always mean the same length from one brand to the next. Some brands, particularly in sportswear, list EU sizes about half a size higher than generic charts like this one, and some use their own offsets between UK and US sizes. This page doesn’t guess any brand’s offsets; it shows one consistent reference chart.

Frequently asked questions

How do you convert UK to EU shoe sizes?

Find your UK size in the chart. As a formula, EU = (UK + 25) × 1.27, rounded to the nearest half size: for UK 8 that’s 33 × 1.27 = 41.9, so EU 42. The answer is the same for men and women. Rule of thumb for adults: UK ≈ EU − 33 for EU 35 to 40, and UK ≈ EU − 34 for EU 40 to 45.5. Both land within half a size of this chart; beyond that the gap keeps growing, so use the chart.

What EU size is UK 8?

UK 8 is an EU 42 (men's US 9, women's US 10.5). Sizes near it are in the chart on this page.

Is the UK to EU conversion the same for men and women?

Yes. UK and EU sizes and foot length don’t depend on gender, so the same row applies to men’s and women’s shoes. Only US sizes are split into men’s and women’s numbers.

Why doesn’t my shoe brand match this chart?

Brands start from the same size systems but choose their own toe room and rounding, and some use different offsets between UK and US sizes. Differences of half a size are common. Measure your foot, then compare it with the foot lengths on the brand’s own chart.
