Batman Day is an annual fan celebration of DC's Batman, the masked detective who first appeared in Detective Comics #27 in 1939. DC organizes it each year with comic shops, bookstores, libraries and other partners around the world.
About Batman Day
Batman Day celebrates one of the longest-running characters in American comics. Created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, Batman debuted in Detective Comics #27 in 1939 and has since appeared in comics, television, animation, films and games. On the day, comic shops, bookstores and libraries host costume contests, drawing sessions and giveaways, and fans share their favorite stories and versions of the character.
DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. started the day in 2014 to mark Batman's 75th anniversary, declaring July 23 that year to be Batman Day. Participating stores handed out a free special edition of Detective Comics #27 that retold the character's first story, along with masks and other items, and DC later described the response from retailers and fans as one of the highlights of the anniversary year.
From 2015 the celebration moved to a Saturday in September. DC does not publish a fixed rule and announces the date each year, and a couple of early editions fell on the fourth Saturday of the month. In recent years, though, DC has consistently used the third Saturday in September, including September 21, 2024, September 20, 2025, and September 19, 2026, so this page follows that pattern. If DC announces a different Saturday for a future year, its announcement is the one to go by.
