How it's calculated

Months are calendar months, not 30-day blocks: we keep the day number and move the month. If the target month is too short (one month after January 31, say), the date becomes that month's last day, exactly like EDATE.

What happens at the end of a month?

If the day doesn't exist in the target month, we use that month's last day. One month after January 31 is February 28, or February 29 in a leap year.

Why isn't a month the same as 30 days?

Calendar months have 28 to 31 days, so six months can be anything from 181 to 184 days. We count real months, like EDATE, rather than 30-day blocks.

How do I do this in a spreadsheet?

Use =EDATE(TODAY(), 6) for six months, then format the cell as a date. With a start date in A1, it's =EDATE(A1, 6).
