What a 25 minute timer is good for
- Pomodoro focus blocks. Work on one task for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break; after four blocks, take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes.
- Study sessions. Long enough to get into a chapter, short enough to stay sharp.
- Baking. Many brownie and sheet-cake recipes bake for around 25 minutes — check with a toothpick.

About this timer
The countdown runs against your device's clock from the moment you press Start, so it stays accurate in a background tab. The line under the digits shows the local time it will end. Pick one of ten alarm sounds, all generated in your browser (hear them on the countdown sounds page), and use full screen to read the time from across a room. Need a different length? Set a custom timer.

Frequently asked questions
How do I set a timer for 25 minutes?
This page is already set to 25 minutes. Press Start, or the Space bar, and the countdown begins; when it reaches zero, the alarm sounds and the page shows Time's up. Pause stops the clock and Reset takes it back to 25 minutes.
How many seconds are in 25 minutes?
1,500 seconds, or 5/12 of an hour.
What is the Pomodoro technique?
A time-management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. You work in 25-minute blocks called pomodoros, each followed by a 5-minute break, with a longer break after every four. The name comes from the tomato-shaped kitchen timer he used.
Will the alarm go off if I switch tabs?
In most desktop browsers, yes. The countdown is worked out from the real clock, and the alarm is scheduled with the browser's sound engine when you press Start, so it stays on time in a background tab. Phones can pause web pages when the screen locks, so keep the screen on — the timer asks the browser to do that where it can — and turn the volume up.
