Stock Market Holidays 2027: NYSE and Nasdaq Closures

By the UpcomingDays editorial team · Updated · 4 min read

The US stock market will close on 10 days in 2027 and close early at 1:00 p.m. ET on one day, Friday, November 26. The NYSE’s 2027 holidays run from New Year’s Day on Friday, January 1 to Christmas, observed on Friday, December 24, and include Good Friday, March 26, which is not a federal holiday.

Stock market holidays are set by the exchanges, not by federal law, so they don’t match the federal list exactly. The New York Stock Exchange has published its 2027 calendar on nyse.com; the dates below come from it. This guide lists every closure and early close, explains where the market and the federal calendar part ways, and covers Nasdaq, the bond market and the remaining 2026 dates.

Stock market holidays 2027

Holiday NYSE closed
New Year’s Day Friday, January 1
Martin Luther King Jr. Day Monday, January 18
Washington’s Birthday Monday, February 15
Good Friday Friday, March 26
Memorial Day Monday, May 31
Juneteenth (observed) Friday, June 18
Independence Day (observed) Monday, July 5
Labor Day Monday, September 6
Thanksgiving Day Thursday, November 25
Christmas Day (observed) Friday, December 24

Early close: Friday, November 26, 2027, the day after Thanksgiving. The NYSE says each market will close at 1:00 p.m. ET, or 1:15 p.m. for eligible options. No other early closes are listed for 2027. On regular days the core session runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET.

How market holidays differ from federal holidays

The exchange calendar overlaps with the eleven federal holidays but isn’t the same list:

  • Good Friday is a market holiday, not a federal one. Federal offices, the Postal Service and banks are open on March 26, 2027, but stocks don’t trade. Count down with the Good Friday countdown.
  • Columbus Day and Veterans Day are trading days. The market is open on Monday, October 11 and Thursday, November 11, 2027, even though federal offices and the Federal Reserve Banks are closed. The 2027 bank holiday schedule covers the banking side.
  • No trading-day loss for New Year’s Day 2028. Federal employees get Friday, December 31, 2027 off because New Year’s Day 2028 is a Saturday. The NYSE takes the opposite approach: its calendar says that because the holiday falls on Saturday, January 1, 2028, no New Year’s Day holiday is observed. The market is open on December 31, 2027.
  • Weekend holidays still move. Juneteenth (Saturday), Independence Day (Sunday) and Christmas (Saturday) are observed on the nearest weekday, just as on the federal calendar.

For the federal side of the year, see the 2027 federal holidays guide.

Trading days in 2027, month by month

2027 has 261 weekdays. All ten market holidays fall on weekdays, so the NYSE is scheduled to trade on 251 days.

Month Weekdays Market holidays Trading days
January 21 2 19
February 20 1 19
March 23 1 (Good Friday) 22
April 22 0 22
May 21 1 20
June 22 1 21
July 22 1 21
August 22 0 22
September 22 1 21
October 21 0 21
November 22 1 21
December 23 1 22

Nine of the ten closures fall on a Monday or a Friday, so they give the market a three-day weekend: the Fridays are January 1, March 26, June 18 and December 24, and the Mondays are January 18, February 15, May 31, July 5 and September 6. Thanksgiving is the only midweek closure, and the half-day that follows it on November 26 leads straight into a weekend.

2026 and 2028 also come out at 251 scheduled trading days: 2026 has 261 weekdays and ten closures, and 2028 has 260 weekdays and nine closures, because it observes no New Year’s Day holiday.

Nasdaq and the bond market

Nasdaq. At the time of writing, Nasdaq’s public holiday page shows only its 2026 schedule, and those 2026 dates match the NYSE’s, including the early closes. Nasdaq hasn’t yet posted 2027 on that page, so check it before you rely on a 2027 Nasdaq date.

Bonds. The bond market follows recommendations from the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, which publishes its own schedule. It differs from the stock market’s: for 2026, SIFMA recommends full closes on Columbus Day and Veterans Day, when stocks trade, and 2:00 p.m. ET early closes on several days before holidays. Its 2027 list so far covers only New Year’s Day, so the rest of the year isn’t set yet.

Remaining 2026 market dates

  • Thursday, November 26, 2026: closed for Thanksgiving.
  • Friday, November 27, 2026: early close at 1:00 p.m. ET.
  • Thursday, December 24, 2026: early close at 1:00 p.m. ET.
  • Friday, December 25, 2026: closed for Christmas.
  • Thursday, December 31, 2026: regular trading hours.

Unscheduled closures and settlement

The published calendar can change. Exchanges occasionally close for national events; for example, the NYSE and Nasdaq closed on Thursday, January 9, 2025 for the National Day of Mourning for former President Jimmy Carter, as the NYSE announced.

Holidays also affect when trades settle. Since May 28, 2024, most US securities trades settle one business day after the trade date (T+1), according to the SEC. A trade made just before a holiday settles after it. On days when stocks trade but banks are closed, such as Columbus Day and Veterans Day, ask your broker when cash from a sale will be available.
